I read your comment on the NYT opinion column “How to be Old.” I love your poem. It is quite clever. Thank you for sharing it with us NYT readers. Because you did, I now have a new poet to follow on Substack!

Thanks so much! I never thought I’d get a subscriber or two from my NYT comment. I write in so many ways here on SS. I hope you enjoy and that we stay connected.

I, too, am 83. My 2 favorite ages of life, so far, have been when my 3 children were young and now, during my ) (lovely old lady years).

HA! I loved this. You nailed my knitting group to a tee, and I'm one of the biggest participants in the recital. Thank you for the laughs in lieu of epitaphs.

Like your last line -- could have used it!

Use it with wild abandon.

Absolutely brilliant!!! I forwarded it to friends.

Lea!! Such great rhymes. Maybe you should record it as a rap! Senior replacement-hip-hop. I also read the excerpt from Roger Rosenblatt's cute editorial (a good friend, Phyllis Theroux knows him so I always read him) and it brought me here. Bravo! I sent it to several friends. Keep a'goin'! (If you're free, I think my work rings a little with yours, esp the dark/absurd humor.) From a LeE.

Funny and sobering. As long as you're talking, you're still breathing. 🌱
